This was supposed to be an easy day of 30 miles to Hilton Head Island. We lazed around the cockpit for a while with coffee and breakfast, contemplating our navels,(aka giggix). Nobody was leaving the anchorage, so we thought what the heck? so we weighed anchor and were the first boat to leave. About an hour into our journey, Uncle Tim calls and asks us about our plans for the hurricane – what bleedin’ hurricane? They were supposed to stop Nov 7th, or someting!
We even got a heads up from my brother Martin, in Ireland, thanks Marty!
Change of plans – we decide to head up to Savannah, as Hilton Head is too exposed and afterall, there are more bars in Savannah.
The current absolutely rips thru Savannah River and after two “unable” maneuvers (remember Sully and the Hudson?), the ferry would not give an inch as we crab crawled down the river at 5 knots, we managed to dock the fat boat Querencia in front of some even fatter boats – the Savannah Tugs.
Cocktails!!!! = solution to any stressful situation
Dinner was had at Spankys (appropriate name…) and was a culinary delight consisting of Buffalo wings and Yingling beer, the Chinese know how to make a good beer. Simple is sometimes really good. Wrapped up the night by watching the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil", shot in good ould Savannah.
Passing Parris Island, Port Royal Sound...........
Querencia tied up at Historic Downtown on the Savannah River
Busy Commercial Traffic on the Savannah River, The Westin on the far banks
