Sunday 1st November Georgetown, SC mile 402.5 (57.5 miles)

Someone decided to change the clocks! So instead of ejecting Jorgen from our cozy feather bed at the usual 06:00 to make coffee, he was on KP at 05:00 wondering why it was so dark. They say the early worm catches something, so we left Myrtle Beach at sunrise around 0630 and headed for our next destination, Georgetown, SC.

Having heard about the dreaded Rockpile, we transited the gauntlet without incident. The Rockpile is a narrow portion of the ICW which very unsuitable for 2 way traffic, particularly when there’s a large tug boat oncoming with cargo. It gets its name from the piles of rocks that are piled at the edges, hence the “Rockpile”, leaving zero maneuverability for any seasoned skipper.. It was probably a good thing the clocks had changed the night before as maybe some of the commercial skippers were sleeping in.

Having passed through the Socastee Swing Bridge at the 09.00 opening we continued onwards surrounded by densely wooded banks and beautiful nature. We caught up with Dana and as we passed each other on the Waccamaw River. With Bonnie’s precision driving Jim successfully return our DVD, via boathook and twine, at a steady hull speed.
Boy talk about giving Netflix a run for their money.

We finally arrived at Georgetown where the Great Pee Dee River and Wacamaw River meet in Winyah Bay. We also managed to refuel 50 gallons in 44 gallon tank at Harbor Walk Marina (!!#?). Something fishy with the diesel meter here? Alas historical Georgetown is quaint and quiet with a small river boardwalk with happy restaurants and dotted with historical architectural buildings.
